Congratulations to all the members of the music department -- students and staff -- for the remarkable presentation last night at OPUS 2006.
Every group performed at an exceptionally high standard and the soloists were amazing.
Of particular note, Petya Stavreva was absolutely astounding in the performance of the Chopin Piano Concerto with the senior orchestra.
The four violinists with the senior strings: Meeso Joo, Joanne Lee, Gifferd Ko, and Laura Choi were outstanding in their solo sections. The piano in "Over the Rainbow" was also wonderful -- so special thanks to Danbee Moon for her fine performance.
The senior concert band's performance of "Multitude" was dramatic and complex but interesting.
Parents were particularly impressed with the chamber music groups as they performed difficult repertoire that is not often heard and performed at high school level.
Mrs. Nykolaiszyn was really getting in to the stage band frame of mind as she conducted both the intermediate and the senior stage bands with great enthusiasm.
Equally impressive were the beginners and juniors under the direction of Ms. Mutter. Their sound was focused and their performance solid.
All in all it was a fantastic evening of entertainment that everyone who attended appreciated greatly.
Congratulations again to all the music students who contributed last night and especially to the teachers -- Ms. Mutter, Ms. Nykolaiszyn, and to Mr. Judge for their hard work in producing such high level and high-energy performances last night.
