A representative from Dalhousie University will be at Etobicoke Collegiate on Friday, October 19th at 9:15am. Dalhousie University is located in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Students interested in attending this session must sign up on the sheet provided in the Guidance Office.

The University of Guelph has 2 entrance Scholarships available. The President's Scholarship & the Lincoln Alexander Chancellor's Scholarship. Both look for students with a minimum of 85% average & a demonstration of leadership abilities in the school and community. A representative from the Ontario College of Art & Design, also known as OCAD, will be at Etobicoke Collegiate on Tuesday, October 9, at 9:00AM. The OCAD representative will be talking about OCAD but will be focusing on the admissions portfolio requirement for any student applying to their programs. PLASP Child Care Services Volunteer Opportunity

If you are looking for a fun place to volunteer and you like children, sports, games and crafts, then PLASP Child Care Services may be the place for you. PLASP is looking for guys and girls for their after school programs. Volunteers usually participate one day a week after school until 6:00PM. If you are interested in volunteering with PLASP, please sign up to attend the orientation which is mandatory and will be at lunch on Tuesday October 9. The sign up sheet is in Student Services.

The TD Canada Trust Scholarship applications are available now in the Guidance Office. The key criteria are outstanding community leadership combined with academic achievement. Students may be going on t college or university. The due date is Oct 31.

Scholarships and Awards Available

The Loran Awards and Canadian Morehead-Cain Awards applications are now available in the Student Services office. The Loran Award was formerly known as the Canadian Merit Scholarship Foundation (CMSF). Both of these awards are for students entering university in Fall 2008.

The Loran Awards program funds outstanding students to study on Canadian university campuses. They seek well-rounded students who demonstrate character, promise of leadership and strong commitment to service in the community.

In 2008 the CMSF will offer up to 112 cash awards at the following 3 levels:
30 Loran Awards: valued at up to $16,000 per year
42 Loran Finalist Awards: one-time awards valued at $3,000
40 Loran Provincial Awards: one-time awards valued at $2,000

The Canadian Morehead-Cain Award is offered to students who show promise of exceptional value to the community and is tenable only at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This award is granted annually to as many as 3 students in Canada and is worth $10,500 US dollars per year, plus full tuition and fees for up to 4 years of undergraduate study, and a laptop computer.

To be eligible to apply for these awards, you must:
1. be in the graduating year of uninterrupted full-time studies in high school;
2. present 6 grade 12 U or M courses with a minimum combined average of 85%; and,
3. hold Canadian citizenship or Canadian residency status.

York U Visit

A representative from York University will be at Etobicoke Collegiate on Tuesday October 2nd. York University has 2 campuses, both of which are located in Toronto, Ontario. The York representative will be in the Auditorium at 11:40, which is the beginning of the lunch hour, to talk about York Main campus and Glendon College, and to answer any questions about this university. All ECI students are welcome to attend, especially those who might be interested in applying to this university for admissions next September.

Aiming for the Top Tuition Scholarship

We have applications for the Aiming for the Top Scholarship. This is for any student going to college or ?University who has financial need. The amount you might receive could be from $100 to $3,500. The deadline is June 22 2007. Last year, ECI had 20 students receive this award. Pick up an application in the Guidance Office.
University of Toronto 3rd Annual Event Coming Up

UfT will host its 3rd Annual event titled "So you're going to University...What's Next?" On Friday June 1st from 5PM to 7PM on the St. George Campus. It will provide students with an introduction to medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and nursing. This event is primarily for high school students with interests in Biology or related fields, but all students are welcome. For more information, please see your counselor.
The Dr. Albert Rose Bursary Scholarship

The Dr. Albert Rose Bursary Scholarship is for any student who lives in rent-geared to income housing. This includes Public Housing, Non-profit housing, and private rent supplement units. The bursaries are for $1000 to $3000 for any post secondary schooling including trades, apprentices, College or University as long as the program is at least 4 weeks in length. Deadline is July 6.
